Verona Downtown Farmers Market: Giving Back to the Community with Fresh, Locally-Sourced Food and Innovative Programs

We are dedicated to giving back and supporting local farmers and small businesses. Our market provides an opportunity for visitors to access healthy, sustainable food options while also supporting the local economy. We offer innovative programs like Market Dollars, Double Dollars, and accept Wisconsin's Food Share and WIC benefits to make fresh, healthy food accessible to everyone. You’ve probably heard of food stamps or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). In Wisconsin, we call the program FoodShare. The goal of this program is to stop hunger.

FoodShare helps people who:

  • Have low-income jobs.

  • Live on a small or fixed income.

  • Are retired.

  • Have lost their jobs.

  • Are disabled and can’t work.

DOUBLE DOLLARS PROGRAM

Get more value for your money with Dane County's Double Dollars program! This innovative program doubles the value of FoodShare benefits when used to purchase fresh produce at participating farmers markets and grocery stores in the county. For example, if you spend $10 of your FoodShare benefits at a participating location, you'll receive an additional $10 in Double Dollars to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. Not only does this program help low-income individuals and families afford healthy food options, but it also supports local farmers and businesses. Don't miss out on this opportunity to stretch your food budget and improve your health. Visit a participating location today and start earning Double Dollars!

The Verona Downtown Farmers Market has worked hard over the last two years to cultivate a market that would be eligible to accept EBT payments and in 2021, we finally did it! We encourage families in the FoodShare program to come to our Market and pick up fresh, organic goods. Transactions are done centrally at the Market Table who will reimburse vendors at the end of Market Day.

WOMEN, INFANTS & CHILDREN (WIC)

Access fresh, healthy food for you and your family with the Wisconsin Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program! This program provides low-income pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 with nutritious food and nutrition education. WIC participants can now use their benefits at the Verona Downtown Farmers Market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as other locally-sourced food items. By using your WIC benefits at the market, you not only support local farmers and small businesses, but you also provide your family with access to high-quality, nutritious food. Visit the Verona Downtown Farmers Market today and learn more about how you can use your WIC benefits to improve your family's health and wellbeing.

Verona Downtown Farmers Market is proud to train and inspire the next generation of Market Vendors, entrepreneurs, and makers! Our market provides a unique opportunity for youths interested in gardening, art, baking, and, most importantly, selling! The Market Under 20 tent is the perfect place for youths to gain hands-on experience in setting up and displaying their work, communicating with customers, processing payments, and earning real money. This popular program is highly sought-after in Verona, and we are excited to expand it when we move to a new location in 2024.

Join us at the Verona Downtown Farmers Market and be part of our mission to inspire and empower the next generation of young entrepreneurs!

Market Under 20

The Farley Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ecological sustainability, social justice and peace. They have two main focuses at the center; The Natural Path Sanctuary, a nature preserve burial ground/cemetery, focused on sustainable end-of-life care choices and burial practices and their Farm Incubator Program. Farley Center land is cultivated by 7 farm businesses, run by Hmong, Thai, Mexican, Columbian, and Euro American women and men.

The Verona Downtown Farmers Market has partnered with The Farley Center for the last two years and we owe a lot to them and their efforts assisting with the Market! We look forward to growing our relationship for years to come.
